The DPF captures soot, which is burned off through regeneration. If regeneration cycles are interrupted by short city driving, the filter can clog. Diesel fuel can gel in extremely cold temperatures, requiring the use of anti-gel additives during winter months to prevent fuel line blockages. The cold-start process is also aided by a block heater, which must be plugged into an external power source hours before starting the truck in freezing conditions. The worth of a diesel truck depends on a simple usage calculation involving frequency and weight.
